Mariachi Chief Sealth joined Banda Vagos for a joint Washington Middle School / CSHS fundraiser on Friday, March 5th, 2010. Guests enjoyed listening to live performances by the famous Banda Vagos while participating in some traditional Mexican Banda dancing. Proceeds benefited both school’s music programs.

CSPA is the umbrella group under which each of the individual ensemble booster groups operate: band, jazz band, mariachi, choir, orchestra and drama.  Each of these booster groups elects their own leadership, raises money for their specific activities, and determines when and how those funds are spent.  All funds are held in the CSPA bank account; the CSPA treasurer keeps separate account ledgers for each group and works closely with each of the respective booster group treasurers.

Many people choose to donate to CSPA through their workplace; employers often contribute a matching amount, doubling the benefits.  These donations can be designated for the CSPA general funds or for a specific ensemble booster group.

The Honor Choir is tentatively planning a Spring 2011 trip to sing at Carnegie Hall in New York City.  Students who wish to travel with us will be responsible for paying for the cost of the trip.  However, it is hoped that the Choir Boosters will raise enough funds through group fund raisers to significantly reduce and minimize the cost for each family.

For example, the high school program purchased trajes to wear during performances, combining funds raised by students and a grant from the City of Seattle.  In the same year, the middle school program, held two days a week after school, was started by Debbie Meyer and Noah Zeichner with funds from another City of Seattle Department of Neighborhoods grant.

Each year we need assistance raising funds for the middle and high school mariachi and folklórico students to travel to Wenatchee, Washington for an annual mariachi festival.  Continued assistance is needed to help write grants, maintain financial records and budgets in order to further develop our program.  We hope you will help support our students!
